New peer-led program will expand opportunities for recovery, employment, and community connection in Suffolk County
Central Islip, NY – July 30, 2026 – Hands Across Long Island (HALI) has been awarded New York State funding to launch a new Clubhouse program in Suffolk County, expanding opportunities for people living with mental health challenges to build community, pursue employment and education, and advance their recovery.
HALI’s award is part of Governor Kathy Hochul’s statewide investment establishing 13 new Clubhouse programs that expand access to evidence-based, recovery-oriented services.
Clubhouses are welcoming, member-driven communities where people living with mental health challenges work alongside staff to build relationships, develop skills, pursue employment and education, and participate fully in community life.
For HALI, the new program represents an important addition to its growing continuum of peer-led services.
“The Clubhouse model reflects everything we believe about mental health recovery,” said Melissa Wettengel, MPH, NYCPS, Chief Executive Officer of Hands Across Long Island. “People recover through connection, purpose, opportunity, and community. This investment allows us to expand peer-led services that help people build the lives they want, not simply manage symptoms.”
HALI has spent more than three decades advancing peer support and recovery through outreach, supportive housing, advocacy, employment services, and innovative programs that engage individuals who are often disconnected from traditional behavioral health systems.
The Clubhouse program will complement HALI’s existing services by providing members with ongoing opportunities to build confidence, strengthen social connections, pursue employment and education, and actively participate in a supportive recovery community.
